For the Cancer Charity Foundation, I wanted to help and learn more about the types of cancer and how it has affected people. one the first day, I did research on the types of cancer and found that they were many and only curable when found early. To raise funds for a trip to a cancer home, we had to plan a fundraiser and considered a brunch for the teachers at our school. The fundraiser requires bringing food from home to sell as a buffet at 10000 UGX. We raised about 200.000UGX. and went to a cancer home.
The cancer home was an eye opener as we were informed that the patients stayed after receiving treatment, chemotherapy, and returned home after a few days. I found people, children, adults and their stories were touching and inspiring. We stayed and talked to them for a while and they were grateful to have company. they also told us ways in which we could help them. One man was thinking about of his children and wanted them to have books, pencils and pens for their children. we brought food for them as gifts.
The club went from first term and I enjoyed learning about the effects of cancer and the participation and involvement in the club. This club allowed me to engage in issues of global importance and work collaboratively with others to plan and initiate activities.
