Mango Roses

The script for the play 'Mango Roses' is almost done. I have finished scene 8 which is when Rosie is stubbornly refusing to serve the men when kneeling down. I started writing scene 6 yesterday were there is whispering about Rosie's Grandmother and her life before she married James. The scene involves speculations and hints of what really happened before. Scene 7 will be the last one I write since Shirley has already done the last scene. After scene 7, we will combine what we have written and give it to Mr. Thompson, the teacher who started this project. The musical is turning out okay with Mary Ann writing the songs and Kate having arrived on Sunday. This project has enabled me to realize that I can write plays and has been an interesting experience from the start.

Senior Choir

Last Friday, we continued to practice 'Santa Claus is coming to town' and we are getting better. Next ime we will be adding moves to make the song a show choir piece. We also did the 'Alleluia' song and we walked around the room to get the pace for the song. We finally did 'Tuimbe Masicule' and we were supposed to get our parts for altos, sopranos and bass. I think that my voice is getting better with practice and may be a change of song would be better however learning these songs is important to get the pieces right before we move on to other pieces.

Modern Contemporary dance

Yesterday, I practiced the turns and stretching to improve how pointed my toes should be during turns and other techniques. I have to bend my feet at the ankles and keep them their for a while so that my muscles can get accustomed to the tension. The instructor says that the pain I feel when stretching is tension leaving the muscles and exposing them to new positions since they do not usually point them everyday. The pressure added is to help expand their range at the joints. Another exercise I did was strengthening my legs. I would have to sit on an invisible chair and keep my back straight while my hands swing and let loose. Monitoring my breathing helps to ease the tension. I also did the dance that he has been adding on and realized that I have grown in my dancing. It is a definitely new experience and hope to continue to expand.

Knitting

On Tuesday, I started to add on to the lines I has already has and I learnt a new techniques where you get the knot from the first back hole, hook it and pass it through then, hook it again and do the same thing. I need to learn to be organized in my knitting since the techniques and presentation will be better if I do. I am starting to get the technique and hope to perfect it soon.

Mango Roses

Today, we discussed the scenes we had written the night before. Shirley had written scene 2 and I had written scene 3. The script consultant, James Macgruder, started correcting the parts and added to what he thought was needed. Mary Ann, the music composer, had written two songs for the scenes 1 and 6. We mainly talked about how to present the story and the scripts and it was quite difficult because they wanted to change most of the parts, I had written into a song. They still aren't sure but I have to finish writing scene 5 today and the rest will continue over the next few days as we complete the script. The writing part is fun and quite easy, all I have to do is picture the scene, consider the characters of the play and see how it plays out and what they would say to each other. It's rather hurried but enjoyable. The most frustrating part is the uncertainty of whether half your scene will be cut out. All in all, this is a very new experience and it has shown me another side of what I can do and accomplish.

Cancer charity project

Yesterday, we started discussing possible fundraisers for our visits to the cancer home. Deshin and I decided to sell food and drinks to the parents, students and any audience during the Gamma Rays play that is at the end of October. There is a pinic where two broad way musicians are going to perform. I thought we could do the same but the PTA have booked that evening so we need to come up with another fundraiser for next week. There are some pieces of art and I think that we could sell them and get some money during the picnic so that it's not a total loss of opportunity. We just have to present our idea and hope that the CAS coordinator says yes!
